“Peace on Earth”
I wish, I wish my friends could see.
How wonderful this could be.
If we choose to do what’s right.
And live each day without a fight.
Instead of taking, choose to give and
always forgive.
It would be nice to live this way.
This is my dream from day to day.
I wish, I wish my friends could see.
How wonderful this world could be
if we live in harmony.

“Life is Good”
Life is good because you are living in it.
Life is important because other people are in it.
You have friends, too.
You have family, too.
I love the world because
you’re in it.

Jennifer Stoup “My Friend Addy”
Her
name is Addy Walker.
I got her for Christmas.
At first I did not want her,
I wanted to give her back because of her hair.
Her hair was fluffy and hard to comb.
I kept her for one reason.
I kept her for her she was.
Addy was a runaway slave,
from North Carolina,
She escaped with her mother.
They came to Philadelphia.
Addy is part of an American Girl
Collection.
And out of all six dolls and all six stories
I liked hers the BEST!
It doesn’t matter that she is black,
Or that I can’t comb her hair.
I want Addy for who she is.
Everyone
is equal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Change This World”
Bring this world together,
and separate it from hate forever.
Make this world a peaceful place,
where none despise a certain face.
Change this world to good,
where all may be understood.
Commit ourselves to peace,
and make this ugly hatred cease.
Inside our hearts we know,
that love was meant to flow.
This world was meant to be shared,
by all who love, and hope and care.

“Harmony”
Children playing
with lady bugs.
Kids jumping on
clouds – light as a
feather –
Bang!
Our
children’s
dreams are shattered.
The hospital is around the corner
how often do we have
to visit?
Dogs are searching for
drugs,
Detectives protecting our schools
are wonderful ideas, too.
Security guards help to keep our malls
safe.
Our kids are playing on
playgrounds.
Our children singing and dancing.
What a wonderful world.

“Odd”
They
said she was odd,
The little Negro woman with a shock of wiry, white hair
Who wore a beret, tipped to the side,
As if to indicate scattered thoughts,
And the bright green jumpsuit.
Her dark, craggy, wrinkled face was different
In the sea of white skin
That sat in the church
Sedately singing hymns.
She stood and squeaked and squealed as they sang,
Lifted gnarled brown fingers heavenward,
And gibbered, “Hallelujah! Amen!”
As her frail body swayed, foot tapping.
They looked at her funny,
And there were whispers
About the tiny Negro woman whose
Chocolate eyes danced in her leather face
As she looked at the solemn congregation and thought,
“Now aren’t they odd?”

“Bequeathed”
Attitude I was bequeathed
with,
it came from my father.
His attitude is laid back and happy.
I will always act in that way.
The worry I was bequeathed
with,
it came from my mother.
Her worry was about me.
I will always have that in me.
The heart I was bequeathed
with,
it came from my grandmother.
She taught me how to use my heart to love.
I will always remember that.
The courage I was bequeathed
with,
it came from my grandfather.
He showed me the only way to live my life, cowardlessly,
I will always be that way.
